Sally Ann Townsend McInnish left this earth and was lovingly greeted by her parents Glynn and Marian Townsend on Saturday January 6, 2018. Sally’s spirit will be forever carried on in the hearts of her husband Lonnie, their 3 children Bridgett, Kimberly and Travis, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 siblings and an extended family of relations and friends.
Sally was born on December 13, 1953 to Glynn and Marian which completed their family with the birth of their fourth child. The family made their home in Norwalk California. Sally grew up in a busy, happy and most times chaotic household that was always filled love.
Sally had a happy childhood and has many great memories of growing up in a time when it was safe to let kids to play outside, go on adventures, roller skate around the block or play night games with the neighbor kids. Sally spent many an hour playing hopscotch on the sidewalk in front of the house. Sally loved her childhood and spent many times reminiscing with ‘remember when’. It was truly a wonderful time in her life.
It was while Sally was working at Alfie’s Coffee Shop in Norwalk, and as fate would have it, Lonnie came in and sat in her station. After a whirlwind romance they were married on March 23, 1974, they shared a special kind of love, the kind of love most people hoped for and many envied. Sally and Lonnie began their life together in Fontana which is where they welcomed their 3 children Bridgett, Kimberly and Travis.
For the past 25 years they have called Redding home, where they continued to build relationships & created a special bond with many people alone the way.
Sally loved her family and loved being a wife and mother. Sally was so content having ‘the best kids in the world’ that she thought nothing about them could bring more joy to her life…Until she became a grandmother. Sally LOVED being a Nana.
Sally made numerous lifelong friends over the years who were immediately a member of the family.
Sally was called Mom or Nana to almost everyone that knew her. Sally was truly loved by her extended family which was demonstrated time and time again, especially over the past few weeks.
Sally never met a stranger and a friend to all. It didn’t take Sally long to size you up and bestow you with a fitting lifelong nickname.
Never one to turn away someone in need Sally never hesitated to open her home to help get them back on their feet. Many stayed for several months. Always without judgment but always with the love and support they needed. Sally did this more times than one could count.
Sally had a quick wit and a smart assed remark for just about everything. Many times there were not the right words to describe a situation so Sally would make up her own new word. Many of people would learn to increase their vocabularies with one of her many ‘Sallyisms’.
At times Sally’s language was not for the weak of heart but at the same time you knew where you stood with her. Try as you might you couldn’t get anything past her, Sally could see through your BS and she would call you out, cuss you out and make you want to get your life together and just do better.
Sally never met a stranger and a friend to all. It didn’t take Sally long to size you up and bestow you with a fitting lifelong nickname.
