Jack was born in Mukilteo, Washington on February 24, 1930 to Lilly & Willis Windsor. He was the eldest of nine, his siblings are: Joyce, Betty, Helen, Dick, Carole, Janet, Danny & Alan. When Jack was young he lived in Mukilteo, Sunnyside (near Lake Stevens), Selah, Issaquah, then finally settled in Redmond.
Jack wanted four things in life, they were: 1) be a Marine, 2) learn to fly, 3) write a book, & 4) get married & have a family. Well, Jack met all four goals.
Was a US Marine:
In July of 1950 after the war started in Korea, Jack enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. Jack was proud to be a Marine. He served in Korea as a tractor operator (tank division). He received four medals. He was offered a 2nd Lieutenant commission, but turned it down & was honorably discharged as a buck sergeant.
Learned to Fly:
Jack learned to fly after returning from Korea. He mostly flew out of an airfield that was located in Bellevue. Jack wanted to fly to South America with a friend. But, that didn’t work out (probably a good thing).
Wrote a book:
In 2006 Jack published a science fiction novel, he titled it “These Memories are my Souvenirs”. It is about an astro geologist on an exploratory trip. Their jump drive gets sabotaged & they get lost. They are then in a quest to get home.
Married & had a family:
Jack met his wife Eleanor, they married soon after in August of 1959. They had three children, Judie, Jim & Bill. They had six grandchildren & three great grandchildren.
When Jack was young he liked to hunt & trap with friends & family. As he got older he only hunted deer & elk. He had lots of good memories of those days. He really enjoyed the company & getting out into the wilderness.
Jack loved to shoot & he was a very good marksman. When he was young he was nickname “Sundance Jack”. As a Marine he was part of the “rifle team” & he was the second best shot. He won more medals in the competitions than anybody else on his team, excluding the team captain.
Jack started working for Boeing shortly after his 18th birthday & retired 44 years later.
Jack loved to travel; the only state he did not go to was Louisiana. He traveled all over Europe & the South Pacific. The only destination he wished he could have seen was the “Great Wall of China”.
Jack enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with his kids, their spouses & grandchildren. Jack ate quite a bit of Turkey & enjoyed the Seahawks game, GO HAWKS!
Jack passed away on December 5, 2014. Jack’s mother, father, eldest sister Joyce & his wife Eleanor preceded him in death. Jack is survived by his daughter Judith (Lance) son’s James (Monique) & William (JoAnne), six grandchildren & three great grandchildren.
A celebration of Jack’s life was held on December 16th at Cottage Lake Assembly Church in Woodinville, followed by a military burial service at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Jack will be deeply missed.
