Jean Carolyn Wren

Jean Carolyn Wren (Lovelady), age 96, of Torrance, died peacefully on June 3, 2025 in Torrance CA. She was the fourth of seven children born to Thomas and Lena. As a teenager, she worked with her father and brothers, Vern and Wayne, in the Lovelady Hardware Store. Mrs. Wren graduated from Torrance High in 1947.

She was the first woman employed in the Torrance Fire Dept., where she was secretary to Chief J.J. Benner for 10 years. In 1952, she married John McDonald Wren. Much of their early marriage was devoted to her husband's pursuit of his law degree. While working in his law practice, she began her career as a Professional Fiduciary. She spent many years working in the service of others, finally retiring at age 80. Above all, she considered her greatest accomplishment to be the birth of her daughter at age 42. She loved her daughter and adored being a mother.

Mrs. Wren is survived by daughter Jean Chan; son-in-law Herwin Chan; grandson Thomas Chan, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, her parents, and six siblings.
