January 14, 1942 - February 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Al Exner into the arms of the Lord. His journey ended peacefully on February 19, 2025 at the age of 83. Al was born on January 14, 1942 near Grayson, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Clara (Ottenbreit) Exner; step-father Karl Rieger; sister Phyllis; twin brother Alvin; step-brother Rynald Rieger; several brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law; as well as a few nieces and nephews. Al is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Darlene; daughters Rosanne (Shawn), and Crystal; sons Scott (Shawn), and Jason (Natalia); grandchildren Shauntel (Jason), Sarah (Devin) Kelly, Derrick (Leah), Bryce (Jocelyn), Jared (Bailey), Kenton (Lucy), Ayla, Katjana; and eleven great-grandchildren. Al will also be dearly missed by his sister Linda (Clarence); sister-in-laws Phyllis and Beatrice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Al dedicated over 50 years of his life to his craft as a carpenter, working for various companies - including his own. His passion for woodworking extended beyond his profession; he was always eager to lend a hand to family and friends with their projects. He took immense pride in everything he built, knowing his work would stand the test of time.
Faith was the cornerstone of Al’s life. As an active member of Holy Child Parish, he served as a Eucharistic minister, demonstrating his deep commitment to his church and community. His unwavering faith guided him in all that he did.
Above all, Al’s greatest treasure was his family, especially his beloved wife, Darlene. His eyes lit up with joy and pride whenever he was with his family. Whether playing cards, watching a sporting event such as a Rider game, participating in a curling game, or simply enjoying the company of those around him, Al had a way of bringing warmth and laughter to every gathering. His sense of humor was infectious, and his kindness knew no bounds.
Al will be remembered for his generosity, dedication, and the deep pride he took in his work, his faith, and, most of all, his family. His legacy of love, laughter, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Al’s longtime physician, Dr. Pervaiz, for his years of compassionate care, as well as to the dedicated nursing staff and physicians at Pasqua Hospital particularly in the Palliative Care Unit. A special thank you to the staff at Grace Hospice for their kindness and support during Al’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Regina Catholic School Division for the Allan and Darlene Exner Scholarship fund at Miller High School. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Child Catholic Church, 2636 7th Ave. E, Regina SK. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:30 am. Private Interment will take place at a later date.
