August 24, 1933 – September 5, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Isadore Czemeres on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the age of 91 years.
Alvin is predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Lois; parents Edward and Edith Czemeres and stepmother Annie; his brothers Wilbert and Rudy Czemeres; and in-laws Archie and Mary Gibson.
He is survived by his two sons Curtis (Kim) of Dallas, TX and Jeffrey (Sherri) of Grimsby, ONT grandchildren Zachary (Sabrina) of Dallas, TX and Dr. Joshua Czemeres (Kayla Friesen) of Regina, SK; sister Bernice Schulhauser of Red Deere, AB; brother-in-law Dennis Gibson of Ottawa, ONT; sisters-in-law Beth Czemeres of Cupar, SK and Bev Czemeres of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK as well as great grandson Emmett and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Lynn Pawelko – Alvin’s earthly guardian angel.
Farming was in Alvin’s blood from the beginning, he was proud to say “I was actually born in a grainery” as his parent’s family farmhouse was not yet built. He married the love of his life, Lois, in 1959 and together they had many adventures. He ventured out with his own farm in 1961 which he worked until its sale in 2000. Raised two sons, spoiling two grandsons and travelling extensively throughout the US, Canada and Mexico plus a trip to Europe.
Alvin had a deep commitment to the Town of Cupar; he served on Town Council for over 30 years and as Mayor of Cupar for 9 years; he also was on the original building committee and on the 1st Board for the Cupar and District Nursing Home (Shalom); Knights of Columbus; Cupar Lions Volunteer Ambulance; plus, anything involved with Cupar hockey/curling arenas from coaching, playing (curling) to taking care of the ice.
As many from his generation Alvin was not afraid of hard work and besides farming, he worked as a grain elevator agent for 18 years (Federal & Sask. Wheat Pool); owned an insurance agency in Cupar for 25 years and worked for Sask. Crop Insurance for over 23 years.
Alvin had a multitude of friends wherever he went and unfortunately the downside of living to be 91 is that many pass before you. We are comforted to know that they are all there to greet him (including our mom). There will be endless coffee (no complaining about the price) and active discussions about Ford vs Chev and how the crops will be this year.
We miss you Dad, take care of Mom and we look forward to the day we can all be together again!
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:00 am, at Holy Child Parish, 2636 7th Avenue East, Regina, SK. A light lunch will follow with time to share your memories of Alvin. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Alvin and his extraordinary life.
