It is with sadness that we announce the passing of DONALD JAMES FOCKLER on July 18, 2025.
Don will be lovingly remembered by: his wife Karen Maxwell, his daughters Meridee Fockler, Dorian Hudec (John) and Robin Fockler (Jonathan Gebert); his grandchildren Graham Wickens (Christina), Jeffrey Wickens, Mariah Hudec and Jonah Hudec; and great-grandchild Charlotte Wickens; Cheryl Lone-Wilson (Paul, Bennet and Carter); Kevin Lone (Carla, Kyler and Braxton), Darryl Lone (Danica and Dylan); sister-in-law Elizabeth Courchene and brother-in-law Blair Paterson; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan (nee Roberston) and his two sisters, Yvonne Moulding and Marion Paterson.
Don was born on June 13, 1933, on a farm in the Elcapo district north of Broadview to Jack and Diana Fockler. The family moved into Broadview in 1943. Don married Joan Robertson in 1957 and raised their three daughters in Broadview, Red Deer and Regina. Joan passed in 1994. Don met Karen early in the new millennium and they were happily married until his passing.
He really enjoyed driving (cars, trucks, anything with up to 18 or more wheels!). He spent the early part of his career working with his father in the garage in Broadview, which often involved taking the train to Brandon or Winnipeg to pick up and deliver vehicles at the age of 16! He was even charged with picking up a vehicle in Vancouver, travelling back to Saskatchewan through the United States as that section of the Trans-Canada Highway was not open yet. Much of his later career was spent driving for Imperial Oil making short haul deliveries of fuel to gas stations in Saskatchewan.
Don loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Toronto Blue Jays, the cabins at Crooked Lake, hunting, fishing, flying, family genealogy, and was a Nash car enthusiast. He was a huge proponent of Saskatchewan. Don could argue endlessly about the merits of Saskatchewan staying on the same time zone year-round, using Fahrenheit vs Celsius, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of his family histories! He was an excellent neighbour.
Many thanks to Karen for her loving care and comfort of Don in his final weeks, the Palliative Homecare service and the staff at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care unit.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favourite charity in Don’s memory.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday August 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina. Interment and tea to follow.
