On Friday, May 1, 2020, Arla Eileen Mae Bates passed away at the age of ninety. Eileen was born on November 18, 1929 in Moose Jaw. She married Douglas Lorne Bates on August 6, 1954, and they farmed near Grand Coulee for many years. She worked as a teacher in Edgeley and Grand Coulee for approximately nine years, and always spoke fondly of that time. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug; her parents, Arla and Lloyd; and her sister, Madeline, who died in infancy. She is survived by her children, Lloyd (Debra) and Coleen (Tom); grandchildren, Courtney (Christian), Colton, Carson, Connor, and Preston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was an incredible mother and grandmother, and was loved deeply by her children and grandchildren. Eileen spent the last two years of her life at Elmview Extendicare; the family would like to thank the staff for their love and care. Prior to that, she lived at Roberts Plaza for many years, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cribbage and cards, sharing tea and cookies, and watching curling. We would like to thank everyone who celebrated her 90th birthday with us last November; she was so happy to see all of you.
Due to the present circumstances of COVID-19, a private service will be held. If you would like to pay your individual respects, you may do so at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina after May 12, 2020. Please adhere to current social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers, we would ask well-wishers to donate to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
