

We are saddened to announce the passing of Ernest “Ernie” Michael Kos on April 23, 2016 at William Booth Special Care Home in Regina Saskatchewan. Born February 3, 1939 in Canora SK, Ernie was the eldest son of Helen (Lisowski) and Michael Kos. Ernie attended school in Rama until 1951 when his dad relocated his IHC and Chrysler business to Invermay. Ernie continued schooling at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton from 1955-1956.
As a young man, Ernie, joined the RCAF in 1963. Following his service he worked for both C.P and C.N. Rail as Telegraph Operator/Station Agent alongside his wife Eugenia, whom he married in 1963. Ernie then decided to upgrade his education by attending Medicine Hat College and then Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington until 1972. From 1972-1975 Ernie was employed by Pennsylvania Life in Spokane, Washington. In 1975 he threw his passion into managing the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt, B.C. He enjoyed this position where he could be close to sports such as hockey, and curling. He participated on many sports teams throughout his life but everyone knew his passion was for hockey. He played goal for many teams including both professional and recreational leagues. In 1978 Ernie moved his family to Regina where he worked as the General Manager of Citadel Insurance until 1988 when the office was closed. Ernie then pursued employment in Calgary for Farm Business Consultants until he retired due to his illness with Parkinson's in 1999. In his retirement Ernie made many friends at the Extendicare in Calgary until his move back to Regina to be closer to family. Ernie moved to William Booth Special Care Home. He was treated like family there. The nurses and staff spent many a time quipping with Ernie about the Leafs’ or SK Roughrider's latest triumph or defeat. He was known for his sharp wit and social ease and he will be missed by residents and staff. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at William Booth who looked beyond their professional obligations to treat their residents like close family and friends. Ernie was made to feel at home and cared for by all the loving staff.
Ernie is predeceased by his father Mike (1957) and his mother Helen (1985). Ernie is survived by his former wife Eugenia and his daughter Cheryl (Mike), granddaughters, Teesha and Quinta(Seon), brothers Gerry (Dianne), Kenneth (Sandra) and Conrad (Nancy), and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family R.C. Parish 1021 McCarthy Blvd. N., Regina, SK on Monday May 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to be announced at a future date.
