Fran was born in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, grew up in Sedley, completed high school in Gravelbourg and trained and graduated as an RN at the Grey Nuns Hospital (Pasqua). It was after graduating that she reconnected with the love of her life from grade school, Ken Bast. After marriage, they resided in Regina raising their children, Guylaine and Darcy. She continued nursing at the Grey Nuns Hospital, then at Wascana Hospital. After leaving nursing, Fran took on the role of volunteer for school and extracurricular activities, participated actively in the life of their children and helped Ken out with farming; delivering lunches or driving truck if needed. She took computer classes to keep up with the kids and kept in touch with classmates over the years. Frequent trips were made to Quebec, Alberta and Sedley to visit family and friends. Many celebrations were shared with family over the years. She enjoyed Globe Theatre and Pat hockey games with Ken. Baking and gardening were her passions. Her beautiful smile, pleasant disposition and patient presence will be dearly missed.
