Freda passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 after a life well lived. Born on June 30, 1916, Freda grew up on the family homestead near Truax, Saskatchewan, moving into Regina in 1928 and marrying the love of her life, Arthur Schuett, in 1946. Freda loved birds and animals, gardening, investigating the wonders of nature, finding out what was over the next hill on a Sunday drive in the valley, and especially spending time with family in the Cypress Hills. Freda was a pioneer in her own right – earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Saskatchewan in 1940. She was a true individual. “I’m sure that is a very good idea, but my plan doesn’t call for it”, was a phrase that was familiar to those who knew her well. She loved words and language, often reciting poems to the delight of family and friends, and over the years wrote articles for the U of S Sheaf, the Leader Post, and the Ladies Home Journal. Freda worked at the provincial Department of Education, and was parish secretary of Sacred Heart Church for 17 years. Family was important to Freda and she raised four happy children. She was interested and engaged in social justice issues and conservation programs in her community and the world over throughout her life. Freda was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Schuett; her parents, Albert and Alice Randall, numerous relatives and many good friends. Freda will be missed and is lovingly remembered by her children, Marie (Arnold) James, Pat, Jim, and Therese (Rick) Dibble; her grandchildren, Catherine (Rob) Benham, David (Kat) James, and Sarah (Krista) James; her great-grandchildren Zach, Luke and Hannah Benham, and Chloe James; her brother-in-laws Len (Joyce) Schuett, Raymond (Elsie) Schuett and Clarence Schuett, and sister-in-law Bernice Hunter, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to the staff at William Booth Grace Hospice for their kindness and compassion. A Prayer Service will take place on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 3:00 PM at The Chapel of Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK. The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia RC Parish, 5020 7th Ave., Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carmichael Outreach, 1925 Osler St., Regina, S4P 1W3.
