Gerard looked back on his life and felt it was full of many blessings. He and Bev enjoyed 53 adventurous years together. They loved travelling, fishing, camping, playing cards, spending winters in California, and took pleasure in entertaining at their home with their family and longtime friends.
He knew farming was his calling from a very young age and began his journey on his grandfather’s homestead, 2 ½ miles North of Dysart, which later became his own. He took pride in his work and his family and found a way to balance them both. He cherished every solitude hour out on his land where every minute nurturing his crops was time well spent. He felt true happiness from the time he planted the seeds to the time they were ready to harvest.
His kind, generous and playful spirit was felt by everyone he encountered; he touched so many lives starting with a simple hello. He cultivated deep and lasting friendships.
Gerard was a skilled inventor, welder and MacGyver; he truly was a jack-of-all-trades. He was young at heart, a jokester and brought life to any party. He had a fiery, competitive nature and was the most determined and stubborn man who was not afraid to bend the rules.
After retiring from farming, he needed to continue to keep his hands in the dirt and his heart in nature and embraced gardening. It filled his soul to share his bountiful harvest. In his final year, he joyfully planted 200 hills of potatoes on the land that was generously provided by the McKell family.
He was extremely proud of his two daughters he raised and passed on his work ethic, that anything can be accomplished with hard work and perseverance.
Gerard will be lovingly remembered and held dear by his children Tressa (Chris) Orr and Tammy (Curt) Saunders; his grandchildren Natasha (JD) Orr and Hunter Orr; his sister Janet Vaughn; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Margaret List; stepmother Alma List; his brother James List; and many close friends and relatives.
We will always be grateful for the compassionate care he received from the many specialists, doctors and nurses, whom he considered to be Angels.
