February 12, 1932 – March 6, 2022
It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt Giustina Carteri Nee Morabito, who passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, March 6, 2022. Predeceased by her parents Rocco and Lucia Morabito; first daughter in infancy; oldest daughter Anna Di Paolo, and sons-in-law Antonio Di Paolo and Richard Wingert.
Giustina is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Antonio; sons Leo (Gail), Rocco (Cheryl), Rosario (Shelley); daughter Lucia (Moidean); grandchildren Giustina, Lucia, and Leila (Kameron) Di Paolo, Antonio, Christian, and Nicholas Carteri, Meghan (Donal) Carteri, and Carlina (Craig) Weisbrod, and Joshua Herback-South; great grandchildren Molly and Gabriella Weisbrod, and Aiden Kinvig, Grace Newman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, United States, Italy and Australia.
Giustina was born in Casalnuovo D’ Africo, Italy on February 12, 1932, she was the youngest of five children. After the loss of her mother at the age of eight, she was raised by her older sisters and aunt. Living with her father Rocco until her marriage to Antonio. They were married on October 1, 1950 in Africo Nouvo and went through many life challenges that they endured together with each other’s support. Immigrating to Canada in 1966 along with their four children, they joined Antonio who had previously immigrated to Regina a few years prior. The next year their family expanded with the birth of their youngest daughter, Lucia. They called Regina home for the next 56 years. Two of her greatest passions were gardening and cooking. Oh how she loved to cook!
You were always welcome in their home. Mom was a very caring and loving person who put everyone before herself. She had a good sense of humour and loved to visit. She always had her apron on and usually a spoon in hand. There were always amazing smells coming out of her kitchen. Mom loved to bake and it was never by a recipe. When you stopped by for a visit you always left with a care package being that of muffins, pies, buns, pasta, or minestrone. She took much pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family meant everything to her.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 100 Argyle Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with a reception and an interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK.
