With heavy hearts and profound sadness, Pat and Lana Klein announce the death of their son Gregory (Greg) James Klein at the age of 38 years old, on July 22, 2022. Greg was predeceased by his grandparents Karl and Agnes Klein and Eucie and Dorothy Closs. Although this unexpected accident left an indelible mark on all our lives, it is important to remember someone for the entirety of their life rather than focusing solely on their death.
Greg was born on March 1, 1984 in Saskatoon, SK but spent the majority of his life in Regina. At an early age, Greg learned to skate. Even though he tried out a variety of sports including soccer and baseball, hockey was the sport he loved the most. He played in the city league for most of his childhood, on his high school team and after that continued to play at the ODRs in the winter and ball hockey in the summer. Fond memories include Greg as a child, setting up his own hockey games complete with singing the national anthem before they started. He also loved playing hockey in the basement with his older cousin, Nolan, any chance he could get. Greg always enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Moose Jaw, Lafleche, or on camping trips every summer.
Throughout his adulthood, Greg worked in a variety of jobs and made many friends along the way. He would often recount the ridiculous number of places he had worked and all the crazy situations that occurred at each different workplace. Everyone who met Greg has a funny story or two about their time working or hanging out with him. If you needed something, he had your back, and would often do favours without expecting anything in return.
At the age of 37, Greg took a leap and started his own Search Engine Optimization (SEO) business. This allowed Greg to do something he had always wanted to do – work for himself doing something he loved while at the same time helping others achieve success. During his time working as Greg the Optimizer, he was able to use social media to connect and befriend people from around the world. He wanted to impact people positively and give off a vibe that made people feel good about themselves. He encouraged people to use their talents and do what they loved. Starting his own business also allowed Greg to prioritize himself, as he was able to go to the gym, learn to cook, meditate, and spend quality time with his dog, Clemente, every single day.
Greg’s life stood for always keeping the faith, having fun, and staying true to himself. He was passionate in his beliefs and, if you were up for it, was always ready for a healthy debate. He had a quick, sharp wit and a great sense of humour. He loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews whenever he got the chance and enjoyed getting to know their personalities more each year. Greg was an avid sports fan, developing tables, charts, stats, acting as commissioner in fantasy leagues, and even calling into the post-game show after every Rider game with his friend, Ryan. His memory for detail was enviable. His top teams were the Moose Jaw Warriors, Philadelphia Flyers, and Chicago Bears. Greg also liked to learn new things and more recently started getting into chakras, energy, astrology and meditation.
It truly is a tragedy that Greg’s life was cut too short, way too soon. Pat and Lana, along with Greg’s sisters and their families: Colleen (Matt, Arlo, Devyn and Austen) MacKay; Christine (Walker, Cohen and Emmett) Frohlich; Erica (Tiro and Nandi) Mthembu; will forever be impacted by this loss and feel his absence. He will also be missed by his dog Clemente, his dear friend Camila, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Rest in Heaven, Greg.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at a later date.
