It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Janelle Roy on October 7, 2024 at the age of 35 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Janelle has left us to rest in peace in her daddy’s arms. She was predeceased by her father Gerald Roy; grandparents George and Jeannette, Roy and Betty Reiter. She will forever be in the hearts of her son Karter Maindonald; mother and stepfather Patti and Lawrence Carriere; sisters Rochelle Mitchell (Chris) and Nicole Roy (Matt Rice); step brother Lance Carriere (Alysa); grandfather Leo Reiter; godparents Dave and Karen Roy; nieces and nephews Peyton, Ashtyn, Zoey, Skyler, Elliott, Jasper and Thomas; best friend Alexis Freeman and very special mama Muna De Ciman as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Janelle was a beautiful spiritual soul that lit up the world. She graduated from Dakota High School in 2007 and The University of Manitoba in 2013 with a Bachelor of Human Ecology degree. She worked at Marymound in Winnipeg with troubled children until she moved to Regina in 2015. It is there that she began her challenging and fulfilling career at Paul Dojack Youth Centre where she was recently privileged to accept the position of Deputy Director and had many lifetime friends. Thank you all for being her family away from home, we are grateful for your compassion and support.
While in Regina, Janelle gave birth to her beautiful baby boy Karter on November 27, 2016. Her little Karterbear was the love and light of her life. Karter will be well cared for by his father Stephen Maindonald and stepmother Anna Galikhanova who will keep his mother’s memory alive.
As a spiritual woman Janelle loved beading and painting. She attended many Aboriginal celebrations and sweat lodges and was told by an elder that her spirit animal was a lynx. In true Janelle fashion she proceeded to ink a lynx on her leg. Her tattoos were her way of expressing her spirituality with many of them being her own artistic work.
A celebration of life will be held on October 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Victoria Avenue Funeral Home and Cremation Centre 2080 Victoria Ave E, Regina, SK; internment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery 815 Assiniboine Ave E, Regina, SK.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Janelle’s honour to the Canadian Mental Health Association or to the Paul Dojack Youth Centre in Regina, SK.
Be free my girl your spirit lives on in all of us.
