It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Leier announces her peaceful passing on Monday, January 5th, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Jean was born on a farm near Benson, Sk. and was predeceased by her parents Edna and Ludger (Pete) Menard, sister Phyllis Eberle and twin sisters in infancy. Growing up she lived in Benson, Forget and Sedley. She attended school at Menard and Forget schools and went on to take a hair stylist course and work in Weyburn. Jean and Stephen were married in the fall of 1952. Jean is survived by her loving husband Stephen of 62 years. They lived in Weyburn and on a farm for the first four years and in 1956 moved to the family farm near Francis where they have lived for 58 years. They raised five sons, Bryan (Rose) and their children Deidre, Garret (Sarah) and Jeadel; Cliff (Melanie) and their children Josh (Keri), Chantal (Trevor), Jeremy (Holly), Nathan, Zoe and Zachary; Kenney (Doreen) and their children Luke (Marissa), Scott (Jana); Danny (Jaycee); Stephen (Tammy) and their children Lauren, Abby, Dylan and Dawson. Jean was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren Brooklynn and Brodie, Raya, Jovie and Arlo, Jaslyn and Brielle, Lilly and Barrett, Preston and Taylor as well as 2 great grandbabies to come in the upcoming months. Jean is also survived by her sister Stella Smith, Aunt Annie Taylor, brother-in-law Roy Eberle, Frank and Barbara Leier, Rose Eberle(Leier), Jean Leier(Baker) and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to being a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother Jean was a classy lady, and half of a great farming team. She still tended her sheep until a few months ago. She had a love of plants, gardening and nature, especially violets. One of her great joys was the annual return of the hummingbirds to her front flower patch. She generously contributed too many causes including the Hospitals of Regina Foundation and has been an overseas child sponsor for over forty years. Jean was an avid armchair fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and a dedicated CKRM listener. Albert Einstein wrote: “Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children, and the younger generation”. Jean will be greatly missed but we will find comfort in our memories of her.
