With great sadness, the family of John announces his passing on March 7, 2013, in the Regina General Hospital. Born on April 19, 1932, to Frank & Victoria (nee Horvath) Vass, one of nine children born and raised on the family homestead north of Cupar, Sask, where he farmed and lived his entire life. In 1961, he married Hazel Alice Buckshaw. He is survived by his wife Hazel; children and grandchildren: Claudette (David) Beitel, Amie (Keegan) Malkoske, Neil Beitel, Mark Beitel; Lyle (Linda) Voss, Drew Voss, Bradyn Voss; Carla Voss (Glenn Wallace); and JJ Voss. Also survived by brothers Andy and Frank; sisters Margaret, Mary and Victoria; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Frank & Victoria; sisters Helen, Julia & Eva; in-laws Julius & Mary (Molnar) Buksa and other family members. John was a modest, caring man who spent his life working hard and providing for his family. He was dedicated to his family, the land, his farming lifestyle, his cattle and horses, dogs and cats, his home. He was honest and dedicated, a man of his word and his actions, always setting an example for his family to follow. A farmer first, he also worked as a Telephone Linesman for many years for the North Cupar Rural Telephone Co, was the barber for family and friends, general handyman mechanic, electrician – whatever needed to be done, John had the skills to do it. He was fun-loving and entertaining in public, always had a joke or funny story to tell. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Cupar, SK, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at 10:30 am with Rev. Robert Mackenzie as Celebrant. Interment shall follow at the Cupar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in light of John’s love of animals, donations maybe made to the Regina Humane Society or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr Rao and all other doctors, nurses and staff of SICU and MPICU at the Regina General Hospital for your care and concern with John during the past few months; as well as RQHR Homecare Nurses. Rest in peace, we will never forget you, “It’s a Pride Thing”.
