Josephine “Josie”, late of Regina, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on Friday December 22, 2017 in the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home at the age of 93 years. She has re-joined her loving husband Anton “Tony” who passed away 1991, which we are sure is a pleasure to now be together again for the Christmas season, and eternity. She is predeceased by her husband Anton “Tony”; son Gerald; granddaughter Kendra; sisters Lorraine Bast, Mary Vogt, and Pauline Sigmeth; brother Alfred Bast; and her parents Frank H. and Katherine (née Schmidt) Bast; as well as her mother and father-in-law John and Anna (née Lipp) Ziegler. Mom is survived and loved by her children Ron (Bernadette), Don, Bob (Judy), Charlene (Larry) Sich, Darcy (Janice); daughter-in-law Dale; her precious grandchildren Tara (Jay) Edmands, Keri Ziegler, Tracy (Darrell) Kress, Tammy (Stacey) Prokop, Pam (Bud) Thurlow, Neil (Angela) Ziegler, Kim Ziegler (BJ Sandalack), Tobi (Gerald) Baumgartner, Aaron Ziegler, Christopher (Crystal) Sich, Kathy Doucette, Rae-Lynn (Dale) Tuttosi, Nicole (Landen) Pillipow, Jacqueline Ziegler (Eric Moser); along with her 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also cherishing her memory are her sisters Rose Church, Bernadette Selinger, Theresa Lipp, Christina (Andrew) Ziegler, Catherine Hensrud; brothers Frank (Dorothy) Bast, Richard (Margaret) Bast, Frederick (Sheryl) Bast, Joseph (Karen) Bast, Anthony (Kathy) Bast; as well as numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mom spent the majority of her active years on the farm near Dilke, Saskatchewan. There she raised her family, and tended to the daily chores of a homemaker. They later moved to Regina to continue to raise the remaining at-home children. After Dad’s passing, she lived independently on her own in her apartment in north Regina. She was hospitalized and said goodbye to apartment living in May of 2016. Mom took up singing along with the Sweet Adalines, which she enjoyed very much along with sewing, dancing, and being a homemaker. Her involvement with the Church was very important to her in living a Catholic spiritual life. Special thanks to Monica Gelinas, all of the excellent staff at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home, and Parkside Extendicare for all of their kindness and compassionate care during Mom’s time with them.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 100 Argyle Street, Regina on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Mom’s memory may be made at 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
