November 14, 1923 – May 14, 2024
Mel was the third of four children born to parents Margaret and Gibson White, at home in the Golden Ridge district near Kipling, SK. An active boy, he grew up with a deep love of sports and music. In 1948, he married Ethel L. Wilton and together they raised three wonderful sons, Ken, Gary and Doug. Mel’s love of family was always in the forefront, but his love for sports and music continued his whole life. As a young man he was very active, enjoying especially baseball, hockey, and field sports, and eventually taking up pool and golf. His love of music came from growing up in a musical family, and his love to sing grew stronger as he would sing with his best friend and brother Lorne. After high school, Mel took a business course in Regina, and worked with Palm Dairies, but this was short lived, and he quickly returned to work on the family farm. After farming for several years, Mel moved his family to Regina and he began working for DeLaval Dairy Equipment, first servicing equipment and later as a local retailer until his retirement. Mel and Ethel sold their family home on Grey Street and moved to Regina Village 22 years ago, where Mel made many wonderful friends.
Mel is survived by his sons Gary of Calgary, Doug of Regina; his grand-daughter Sheri (Mike) of Calgary; and great-grandchildren: Elias, Taryn and Kinley. He also leaves to cherish the memories of his life, many nephews, nieces, and friends. Mel is predeceased by his wife Ethel (2009); son Ken (2023); sister Eleanor (Leslie) Brown; sister Muriel (Eric) Schaeffer; brother Lorne (Dorothy) White; daughter-in-law Louise; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In celebration of a life well lived, there will be a graveside service for family and friends on Tuesday May 21, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK., please meet at the gates of the cemetery.
Mel lived life to its fullest and always had a joke to tell, we will forever remember the way he brightened our lives.
Life is a song—sing it. Life is a game—play it. Life is a challenge—meet it. Life is a dream—realize it. Life is a sacrifice—offer it. Life is love—enjoy it.
