Ruby Bast

Ruby passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the age of 87. Born in Regina to Frederick and Mary August. Ruby married J. Arnold Bast on November 10, 1955. Ruby was predeceased by her parents Frederick & Mary August; her husband of 56 years, J. Arnold Bast; brothers William “Bill” and Edward “Ed” August. She is survived by her son Randall “Randy” Bast of Regina, SK; daughter Lorie (Blair) Pateman of Weyburn, SK; granddaughters Carly Pateman (Luke Wacholtz) of Regina, SK and Stephanie Pateman of Kelowna, BC.

In raising their family on the farm in Sedley, SK Ruby was a mother who encouraged lots of play, in the city she was a mother whose house was always filled neighbourhood children and friends. As a grandmother she spoiled with playground outings and crafts. As a friend she was fiercely loyal and always someone to talk to.

Ruby was a member of the Little Flower CWL (Catholic Women’s League) and a volunteer member of the Regina Special Olympics for many years. She loved to sew, knit and crochet, often donating knit items like her famous slippers and baby blankets. She enjoyed her twice per year trips to the USA with Randy and loved having family suppers.

She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

Thank you to Dr. Rodney Zimmermann & Dr. Gregory Beaumann and the nurses of Regina General Hospital and Wascana Grace Hospice, as well as Cliff Geiger for all of the care and compassion received.

A memorial service will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.
