Stella LUZNY, age 96, of Regina, Saskatchewan passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Stella was born May 26, 1925 at Cullen Saskatchewan, one of six children born to Michael and Anastasia Huculak. She grew up on the farm and upon graduating high school moved to Regina to study nursing. After a period of time she realized it wasn’t for her and began a job working for the Saskatchewan government in the parliament buildings. Stella lived downtown at a rooming house and in her off hours enjoyed strolling in Wascana Park and dancing her feet off at the Trianon ballroom. It is at the Trianon where she met Joseph and soon fell in love. They were married in Findlater on October 6, 1951. Their first child, Marilyn was born November 13, 1954, followed by a son, Gary born on April 24, 1957. The family moved into a house at 415 King Street in Regina and resided there until 2005, 50 full years. Stella gave up her career to raise the family and was the typical housewife managing the family affairs. She was an excellent cook and will be fondly remembered for her cabbage rolls and perogies, as well she made great pastries, especially her homemade donuts and cookies. When the kids moved to Calgary she and Joseph visited them often. Stella especially loved trips to the mountains and relished the time spent there. Her favourite time of year was spring when her favourite flower, the Lilac was in bloom. Her brother Bill always made sure she had a fresh bouquet for the house. Once Joseph retired they had a relaxing lifestyle of card playing, especially hand and foot canasta, socializing with friends and long drives in the country. Stella was always pleasant and a very happy person. She could also whistle a wicked tune. When Joseph passed away on May 29, 2014, Stella remained in the home until May 2017 when she moved into Qu’Appelle House on College Avenue in Regina. She enjoyed the next five years socializing with the residents, reading and cheering on her favourite sports teams the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Blue Jays. Stella looked forward to visits from family and friends and getting out for drives in the country and around Wascana Park. The Covid pandemic, especially the last six months was hard on her as all visiting and outings were restricted. Lots of time was spent talking on the phone with her children looking forward to the time when things could get back to normal. Stella was loved greatly and will be dearly missed.
