November 20, 1921 – July 12, 2021
Steven Andrew Nagy passed away peacefully on the morning of July 12th at the age of 99. Steve was born November 20th, 1921 on a farm near Cupar, SK. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa Nagy; parents, Peter and Apollo Nagy; brother, Bill Nagy; and sister, Mary Molnar. Steve is survived by and leaves to mourn his brother, Louis Nagy; son's Andy Nagy [Melvina] and Steve Nagy [Carol]; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Steve was a World War II Veteran serving overseas in Holland, Belgium and France. After the War ended he joined his older brother, Bill in England and along with other servicemen came back home on the Queen Mary. With the 75th Anniversary of the ending of World War II he recently received acknowledgement from the Federal Minister of Veteran Affairs thanking him for serving on behalf of Canada. Upon his return from the war, he worked at Western Bakery where he met his wife, Theresa Pisch, who also worked there. He worked at the bakery until it was sold. He then purchased a gravel truck and worked on road construction. As this took him out of town he started to work in the Sheet Metal Trade. After becoming a Journeymen Sheet Metal Fabricator, he joined his younger brother, Louis, at times, in the Plumbing and Heating business. Upon his father-in-law’s passing in 1968 he managed the farm with his two sons which was just west of the city. He obtained his Boiler Certificate as well which enabled him to look after the block on 11th Avenue which housed the old McLeod Store downtown and the VON Nurses. Later the farm was sold to the city for land development however the last 1/4 section is still being farmed today. In later years he enjoyed retirement. He was in his 80's when he made several trips to Hungary to visit his heritage and see where his in-laws and wife lived. After living through the Depression and serving in the War, he became a devoted CCF/NDP supporter and would often campaign for them. Steve will be forever missed and loved. May he dwell in Peace and Perpetual light shine upon Him. Prayers will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK at 7:00 p.m. With a Funeral Mass to follow on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St Peter’s Catholic Church, 100 Argyle Street, Regina, SK at 1:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
