Ralph William Spence, Jr., 61, of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away in his home on Friday, February 8, 2019. He was the loving husband of Donna Marie (Stankiewicz) Spence. The couple wed in Reading on August 26, 1978 and shared 40 years of marriage.
Born in West Reading on September 28, 1957, Ralph was a son of the late Ralph W., Sr. and Myrtle E. (Schell) Spence. He was a 1975 Reading High School graduate and was employed with Heeby’s Surplus Inc. from 1993 to 2016. At the same time, he was employed with Santander Arena and Performing Arts Center from 2005 to 2016. Prior to that, he was employed with Fritz Moving Co. and Electric Coil Services, Inc.
Ralph enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, watching his nephew, Keith J. Lerch bowl and visiting his bungalow at Peach Bottom. He was an active member of the Jackson Democratic Club and a dedicated Raider’s fan. Ralph was an avid softball player and played for the Pike Café, Shirley’s Café and Jackson Democratic Club.
In addition to his devoted wife, Donna, Ralph is survived by a brother-in-law, Chester “Chettie” H. Stankiewicz, Jr. of Reading and three sisters-in-law, Linda A. (Stankiewicz) Ressler and her companion, Joseph Stoyer of Reading, Susan L. (Stankiewicz) Uhrig and her husband, Joseph of Shillington and Lisa R. (Stankiewicz) Lerch and her husband, Scott L. of Exeter Twp.
Also surviving are many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless dear friends.
Ralph is predeceased by his in-laws; Chester H., Sr. and Marie C. (Kilar) Stankiewicz; an uncle and 2nd dad, Donald R. Smith; a sister-in-law, Donna L. (Huyett) Stankiewicz; a nephew, Keith Uhrig and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Services for Ralph will be Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 11am in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. A viewing will be Thursday in the funeral home from 9 to 11am. Ralph will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
