Born to the union of Mary (Bethea) and Willie Edwards, Betty was their fourth and youngest child. She was raised with her three older siblings in the home of their uncle and aunt, Caris and Fannie (Bethea) Williams, in Barnesville, North Carolina. Betty eventually relocated to Seattle, Washington at the invitation of her beloved uncle and aunt, Robert and Earlene Bethea. There she met and married Laurice G. Brooks and together they raised a family residing in Seattle and later Maple Valley, WA for the remainder of her life.
After more than 30 years, Betty retired from the U.S. Postal Service. During those years, she made many lifelong and very special friends. For many years, she and her husband dedicated countless hours and many years ministering to seniors and disabled patients in local nursing homes – a commitment they continued until declining health limited her mobility.
After dedicating her life to the Lord, Betty became a long-time member of Rainier Temple later joining the NW Life Church in Renton, Washington. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith, dedicated prayer life and an abundance of love by and to those who loved her.
On January 17, 2018, Betty was released from her mortal body. While her family and loved ones grieve her passing, we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and we rejoice that she is finally home.
Our hearts are broken and overflowing with love and tremendous loss. Thank you for your prayers of support and words of encouragement. They have been food for our souls, uplifting and carrying us as we honor and celebrate her life.
