Brett was born on May 13, 1990, at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, Washington to parents Michael Roberts and Martha (Telford) Roberts, who reside in Renton, Washington.
Brett attended Hazelwood Elementary School, McKnight Middle School, and Hazen High School. He then continued his education, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Writing, from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon in 2012.
Brett was known to all as a person with simple material needs and an active imagination. From a very young age, Brett always gravitated toward being immersed in others’ stories, as well as writing stories of his own. He found comfort and joy in putting his thoughts down on paper or having his head buried in a book. He was an avid reader and loved his books, movies, and television. Brett was a lover of all animals (cats most of all) and particularly enjoyed spending one-on-one time with his friends and family. He truly loved connecting on an individual level with his people and enjoyed sharing his passion for television and movies with them, always insisting on expanding others’ cinematic repertoires, and giving you a lengthy, well-thought-out reason why it was necessary that you watch them with him. He was quite a character.
Brett was a remarkably unique, kind, and caring soul, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was sweet and loved by so many. He made a lasting impression on those who met and knew him, as someone wise beyond his years yet child-like in spirit. Brett was always unapologetically himself and stayed true to his inner callings and principles. He will be remembered in our hearts as the gentle, empathetic, complicated, and distinctively ‘Brett’ individual that he was. If you knew him, you know.
At the time of his death, Brett worked in maintenance at Costco, in Kirkland, Washington.
Brett is survived by his parents, his sister, Bailey Roberts, and his brother, Parker Roberts. Worth mentioning as incredibly important people to him are also his cousin, Joshua Bain, and the absolute love of his life, his Grammy Shirley.
Memorial services will be held at the Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Renton on Monday, August 8th at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that tributes be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
