Dave was born in Texas where his dad served in the US Air Force. His family eventually settled in Renton where Dave graduated from Lindbergh High School. He attended the University of Washington and was a member of ROTC. After graduation, Dave was proud to serve his country as a Captain in the US Air Force. Upon completing his active service, Dave attended Washington State University to complete his Master's in Environmental Science.
He started his post military career at the US Army Corps of Engineers doing environmental cleanups. In 2003, he moved to the Environmental Protection Agency as a region 10 On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) with a specialty in biological agent responses. He participated in the Columbia Shuttle Recovery Response, Hurricane Katrina and Rita responses, biological agent responses, and numerous other responses. He worked closely with other agencies and regions to build camaraderie and efficiencies across the responders.
Dave also enjoyed tech toys. As a writer for the-gadgeteer.com he was always searching for some new gadget to play with. From building lightsabers to gushing over his beloved Colonel Littleton bags and everything in between.
Although Dave loved his job and tech toys, his family was critical to him. Dave and Jenifer (Jen) were happily married for almost 25 years. After Hodgkin's cancer in 1993, the possibility of having kids was unlikely. However, as Dave’s luck would have it, they were blessed with a son, Jacen. Together they built a treehouse and outbuildings, played tennis, remodeled houses, and made endless memories including Dave and Jacen earning their Cuong Nhu black belts together.
He is survived by his wife, their son, mom, dad, sister, nieces, nephews, stepfamilies, in-laws, and extended family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Dave’s honor. His Celebration of Life will be posted on: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/daverees007
