Dennis Michael Sweeney 6/10/48 ~ 2/12/11 Dennis passed away suddenly while in treatment for colon cancer. Dennis grew up in the West Seattle/South Seattle community, attending Olympic Junior High graduating from Mount Rainier High School in 1966. After graduation Dennis served his country by volunteering for the United States Air Force, serving in the reserves from 1968-1973. The majority of Dennis' working life was spent at Seattle Tacoma International Airport. He worked as a Continental Airlines Cargo Sales Agent for over 20 years. After he left Continental he finished his career, at the airport, working with his wife at Ken's Baggage & Frozen Food Storage. Dennis had a zest for life and appreciated every day as if it were his first. He was loyal to his friends, often being the "sarcastic comedian" taking and receiving liberties where others would have failed. Dennis loved to bet on his horses. Although a lifelong Raider fan, Dennis enjoyed viewing just about any sporting event, finding it may be much more interesting if he could bet on it. Dennis enjoyed traveling to as many sunny locations as was possible, but found his favorite place in Washington State at Haven Lake in Mason County. There he happily enjoyed over 25 years of 4th of July fireworks, sunny afternoons, and the friendships he made navigating the lake. However, his favorite place on earth was Sugar Beach, Kihei, Maui. Dennis was always happy with a drink in his hand and the sun on his face. He never found a beach he did not enjoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Terrence and Ann Sweeney. Dennis is survived by his wife of 29 years, Diana (Layne), his son Joel Michael Sweeney, his brother, Donald E. Sweeney, John and Carol Layne, Denny and Heidi Layne, Joshua Layne, Matthew Layne, and an amazing group of lifelong friends. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to his favorite charity, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, "Joel's Brigade." jdrfnorthwest.com. Memorial Services will be held on Friday February 18, 2011 at 3:30 pm at Greenwood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 350 Monroe Avenue N.E., Renton, WA 98056.
