Lorraine D Shumer

Lorraine passed away peacefully at her home on June 7, 2015, with her family present. She was 84 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth M. and Gordon D. Larson, her sister, Gloria A. Anderson, and brother-in-law Gene Anderson.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin Shumer, and her children, Sherrie A. McCall and husband Ken McCall; Janet M. Berry; Thomas E. Shumer and wife Julie Shumer; and Craig G. Shumer and wife Susan Appleton.

After graduating from Franklin High School in 1949, Lorraine was employed as a telephone operator with the AT&T Company. She met her husband in early 1951, and they married in early 1952. The marriage has lasted 63 years. She and Edwin have been blessed with 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Lorraine had many interests. She loved Christmas and birthdays, when she could buy special gifts for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her mother, Ruth, and her Auntie Gladys, driving them to appointments or helping with tasks they were unable to do.

She had an open heart for people who had very little, as well as the homeless. For many years, she devoted countless hours to the Church food and clothing bank. She also volunteered at the local elementary, helping the teachers and the young children.

Travel was an important part of Lorraine’s interests. She especially loved going to national parks, both large and small, never tiring of their beauty.

The Church was the biggest part of her life, because it was there to transform her. She was a member of both the Fifty Plus and Ladies Bible Study Groups, where she sang hymns and joined in potluck lunches, simply enjoying the fellowship of the other group members.

A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held on June 11, 2015, at 11:00 am, at Greenwood Memorial Park Chapel, which is located at 350 Monroe Ave N.E., Renton, WA. The graveside service will be held in the Military Park at Greenwood Memorial. Flowers or a donation to your favorite charity are welcome.
