Loyce Marie Massey

Loyce Marie Massey was born on August 24, 1918 in Billings, Montana. She was the only child of Leonard and Lillian Johnson. The family moved to Seattle in 1921 where she attended Horace Mann Elementary School.

Loyce graduated from Garfield High School in 1937. During her high school years she met Frank Massey who was a Garfield standout athlete. They were married in 1938 and resided on Capital Hill where they were members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where they raised their only child Barbara.

The Masseys moved to Mercer Island in the late sixties. Following Frank’s death in 2002, Loyce lived in the family home until moving to Covenant Shores Retirement Community in 2007. Loyce was employed by Harborview Medical Center and Nordstrom. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Loyce passed away on August 17, 2013 following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by one daughter (Barbara Tillman), two granddaughters (Stacy Leonard and Tracy Brown), nine great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Shores Retirement Community on Mercer Island on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 2pm.
