sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in the loving care of King David
Care Home on September 24, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on November 12, 1927,
in Renton, Washington, at her grandmother’s home, Matilda was the cherished
daughter of Italian immigrants Matilda and Emilio Favro. She grew up in a closeknit
family where she learned the values of hard work, compassion and
perseverance. She built a legacy rooted in love, resilience, and devotion to family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter E. Donati, in 1957. Left with
two young children, Matilda faced life’s challenges with quiet strength and
unwavering grace. She later married William H. Jones, with whom she shared 50
cherished years of marriage.
Matilda was a devoted homemaker, loved cooking, baking, and as an avid
gardener used everything she grew from her well-tended garden. Her Cascade
Berry jam was a family favorite. She and her husband, William (Taid to the
grandchildren and great grandchildren) shared their love for the outdoors and
camping with the entire family. She even penned a song, titled “Camping with
Grandma and Taid” and taught it to all the grandkids. She was the proud and
loving mother of Kathryn (Donati) Allen and Peter Donati (wife Evelyn), and loving
grandmother of Brian Hansen, Tony Donati (wife Laurie), Nicole (Donati) Elvidge
(husband Michal), Jennie (Hansen) Moreau (husband Casey), and Vinnie Donati
(wife Whitney), and great-grandmother to ten great grandchildren.
She shared a special bond with her younger sister, Linda (Favro) Loney. Though
distance separated them, they stayed close through daily crossword puzzles over
the phone—a testament to their enduring connection and shared joy in life’s
everyday treasures.
Matilda’s legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and selfless care. When she lost
her first husband, her family embraced her with love and support. In turn, she
spent her later years giving back tenfold—caring deeply for her parents, loved
ones, and friends in need. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone who
knew her.
She will be remembered for her boundless love, her green thumb, and her
unwavering commitment to those she held dear.
A celebration of life service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton
on October 8th at 12:00 PM. Graveside interment will follow, with a reception
immediately afterward at Greenwood Memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests planting something beautiful in her memory—just as she would have
done.
