

Raymond Chan, a native of Toyshan County, was born on October 14, 1931 in Kowloon, Hong Kong. He was born in a Christian family. He graduated from Hong Kong Wah YanCollege in 1951. He came to the United States in 1952 to study at the University of Washington, major in electrical engineering. He later obtained a master's degree in 1959. After graduating in 1962, he taught at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in New York. In 1964, he was employed by Con-Edison Energy Companyin New York as an engineer in the Planning and Development department for 35 years.
During his tenure, he received many appreciations from his company. He retired in 1999. After retirement, he still volunteered in a middle school, teaching English and mathematics for new immigrants. Every week, he returned to Con-Edison to help his colleagues.
Mr. Chan loved to contribute to charity. In 1989-1992, he was elected as the president of New York International Lion’s Club of Chinatown. He served the Lion’s Club for more than ten years.
In 1969, Ms. Yeung met Mr. Chan met in Hong Kong in 1969. Twenty years later, in 1989, they met again in New York and finally got married. They had no children, but they lived happily and cared for each other for 32 years of married life.
Later in 2007 they moved from New York to Washington State. Mr. Chan was a passionate worker. He was a peaceful, hardworking, kind, responsible and patriotic man. He loved to travel. After retirement, he traveled around the world with his wife. He loved classical music, reading and movies. His life was simple and optimistic.
Mr. Chan passed away peacefully in his sleep in a hospital on November 14, 2021 without pain, at the age of 90.
