It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert L. (Bob) Moffatt announces his sudden passing on the afternoon of October 15, 2011. Dad and Mom had just returned the previous day from a 10-day trip in celebration of their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Dad was born the son of his professional hockey player Father, Ronald Moffatt and his elementary school teacher Mother, Evelyn Geary in Biggar, Saskatchewan. His sister, Patricia, was born two years later. The family moved to Seattle, Washington where Dad and Pat grew-up.
Dad met our Mom, Joan Anderson at Lincoln High School. They soon became high school sweethearts and were married in 1951 while Dad was serving in the Navy. Before being honorably discharged, Dad and Mom welcomed the first of their six children into their lives. Soon he began a 42-year career at Boeing. Dad rose through the ranks at Boeing and as his career soared, so did he. He traveled extensively for Boeing in the United States and around the world, developing business relationships and friendships that endured long after his retirement. He was a smart, energetic and savvy businessman who learned and grew every moment in his life. Yet somehow he managed to be a wonderful, supportive and loving husband and father along the way. Once we were grown and on our own, Mom would sometimes accompany him in his travels. One of Dad’s proudest career accomplishments was planning and leading Boeing’s military and space presence at the Paris Air Show and the Farnborough Air Show. He retired in 1994 as the Boeing Director of Customer Relations for the Defense Division. In his free time before and after retirement Dad enjoyed golf, and was an excellent golfer. He and Mom were members of the Fairwood Golf and Country Club for over 36 years. Dad proudly served as Club President in 1978. Mom was also a golfer, which led to a wintertime life in the San Diego area to enjoy sunnier, warmer weather. They would return before Easter and would spend time with family and friends in the greater Seattle area and beyond. Dad and Mom enjoyed entertaining and hosted all the birthday and holiday gatherings in the family home until our extended family grew to include spouses, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dad’s greatest legacy was that of a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend!
Left behind to mourn his passing is the love of his life, Joan; His children Mike, Nanci (Jeff), Ron (Teresa), Joan (Mike), Matt and Jan (Steve); His grandchildren Jennifer, Bill (Misty), Mary (Dusty), April (Ron), Zackary, Adam, Dustin, Jim (Amber), Matt, Ariel and Sara; And, his great-grandchildren Ashley, Makayla, Justin, Kegan, Charysma, Meagan, Ryan, Jordyn, Savannah and Jacob.
A family memorial service was at St. Anthony’s Parish in Renton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fairwood Golf and Country Club, 17070 140th Avenue SE, Renton, 98058 on Tuesday, October 25 at 2pm. All are welcome to attend and to share in the passing of this outstanding, remarkable man.
Entrusted to the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home, Renton, WA.
