Please accept my condolences for your lost. From knowing Pat, he must have been a wonderful man. Too often, good people are taken from us too early. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Dear Thanh Van Phung family.
You stay in our prayers during this time of adjustment. After reviewing the photos it was quite evident that Mr. Phung was a very dedicated man to his family. What an honorable life he lived. We only know Pat Phung from Hawaii who now is in Japan with his lovely wife and children. The character and the way Pat represents himself and his family is a direct reflection of his parents who raised him. May God continue to be with you now and forever.

Thanh had shown his strength as a young man serving with honor in the military of his birth country. He and his wife worded hard to give their children a beautiful life in the United Sate. I have watched Thanh be the most beautiful, giving, caring, and loving (ong-ngoai) grandfather to his wonderful grandchildren. What a beautiful gift of memories he has left his family. My memories of Thanh centered around family. In middle school Tan would invite me over to spend the night. Often we'd all be staying up late watching funny shows on Showtime like Bizarre featuring my favorite, Super Dave Osborne or another Showtime great, Benny Hill. For a teenage boy, Benny Hill was the best. Tan and I would stay up very late and Thanh would be up right along with us late into the night laughing all throughout the evening. 

I remember going to the Y Drive in to watch shows like The Flying Guillotine. It was cool to be invited on such a family outing as often I was the only guest. Looking back it really was an honor.

The most fun and memorable outings were when we went fishing. Tan, Thanh and often other members of the Phung family would go to places like Sprague Lake, Fourth of July (the walks to get to our "spot" were often long treks that left me tired and wondering, "what am I doing?"...turns out it was worth it, the fish were huge) and our favorite place, West Medical. I remember Thu or Geneva catching what we thought was a large fish and it turned out to be a rock fish. As in a real rock. I'd never seen anyone catch a rock before nor since. Thanh was always encouraging me to catch the "big fish". He was always rooting for me to get the big one, helping me out with tying my line, helping me get my line out if it were stuck or just laughing at me because I had done something goofy (multiple time per trip I'm sure). There were plenty of laughs as I was the least competent member of our usual fishing trio. He and Tan were the masters of fishing and I tried to pick up on as much expertise as I could by being around. When I thought I had finally caught the "big one" at Sprague Lake only to have the fish get away at the shore where I could actually see it was huge...... all Thanh could do was laugh at my reaction as I was in total disbelief that the big one had gotten away, for real!!!!

I also learned that he knew how to work so very hard and passed that trait along to his children. He had his job at Eastern State during the week and then he would paint apartments on weekends, often having one or more of the kids along to help. 

Finally, once the Phungs moved to the west side of the state I'd often stop over and Thanh was always offering me something to eat. And I didn't dare say I was full or not hungry, that wasn't going to be an acceptable answer. I knew I was always going to be well fed when I visited the Phung household. 

I'm sorry Thanh has passed. I miss him dearly. However, his legacy lives on forever through his wife, kids and grandkids. He was a great man.

The vacuum that gets created can never be filled. However he is no more in pain, and I am sure he in eternal peace in the Heaven. He has been a gentle soul and he deserve to be in the Heaven rather than being in pain.

I pray to God to give you the courage to carry on and to support your mother and family in this time. Remember your dad will be in peace to see you happy and peaceful.
