Betty G. Davenport passed away at the age of 92 on August 25, 2022 surrounded by family. A native of Dallas, Texas, she was born at St. Paul Hospital on May 29, 1930 to Mary Dempsey Ross and W.A. Ross. Betty grew up in Arcadia Park and graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1947. She then attended Rutherford’s Business School to study accounting. She married Tom Gavos in 1948 and raised a family while working in the accounting office of Rath Meat Packing in Dallas. The family moved to Ft. Worth in the early 1960s and moved back to Dallas in 1965 settling in Lake Highlands. They were parishioners at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She worked for Hall-Mark Electronics in the credit department for more than 20 years and ultimately became national corporate credit manager. Betty married Paul Davenport in 1986 after her previous marriage ended. They settled in Richardson, Texas, and were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a volunteer for more than 25 years with the Baylor Medical Caring Hearts Program. She helped start the program at Baylor Plano – The Heart Hospital in 2007, upon its opening. She was smart, caring, warm, and loved by all who knew her. She is survived by a sister, Patricia Simmons, of Santa Ana, California; and her four children (by Tom Gavos): son Robert Gavos and wife Cathy of Houston, son Richard Gavos and wife Jo Ellen of Dallas, son Joseph Gavos and fiancée Lisa Plunk of Richardson, and daughter Shirley Moscrey and husband Frank of Dallas. She loved and adored her nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Betty was the matriarch of the family and we loved her dearly. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220.
