Bettye was born November 18, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin Paul Pullen, a native of Kentucky and her mother, Bessie E. Shepherd a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Ramsey High School. She was an early career woman and built her life-long career in the insurance industry until her retirement.. Her work took her from Birmingham, AL to Hartford, Connecticut, to Dallas, Texas where she worked with Mercantile Security Life Insurance and Aetna Insurance.
Bettye was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She loved her church and devoted much of her time in retirement working in the Richardson East Church of Christ in Richardson,Tx. She had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing especially hymns. Bettye enjoyed her early morning Sunday job in the church office where she opened up and answered the phone. Bettye found great joy and happiness with her church family and it was the mainstay of her life.
In addition to her love for her church, Bettye found great joy in her life because of her many lasting friendships.. She had sparkling brown eyes and loved to laugh and have fun with the very simple things in life. She enjoyed eating out with friends, going to movies, visiting with friends, especially on holidays and she enjoyed helping others less fortunate.
Bettye was everyone’s expert on movies and movie stars and made a science out it from the earliest years to the present. From Charlie Chaplin to her current favorite Antonio Banderas.
Of all her interests outside the church nothing could rival her total devotion to her Texas Rangers baseball team. Bettye never missed a home game and had seats just behind home plate for over 20 years. In 2006, the Texas Rangers voted Bettye their Number One Fan and she cherished every minute of the celebration.
