

Cecil Jack Gholson, 87, of Richardson, Texas, went to be with his Lord on February 2, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Bettye Jo; one daughter, Twyla Hall, her husband, Mark, and their two daughters, Elena and Lara, of Richardson, Texas; sister-in-law, Robbie, of Abilene, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was the best Granddad in the world to Elena and Lara. He was the kindest and most caring man that you would ever want to meet.
He was born September 25, 1927, to J.W. and Beulah Gholson in Haskell, Texas, and accepted Jesus as Savior at an early age. He was graduated from Haskell High School as valedictorian and from Texas Tech with highest honors in the School of Business. He was on active duty with the U.S. Army as an enlisted man late in World War II, and as an officer during the Korean conflict.
A certified public accountant, he was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, and taught evening accounting classes at the Amarillo Center of West Texas A&M University. He was a member of the Amarillo Club and the Amarillo Country Club for many years.
Employed by Atmos Energy Corporation and its predecessors for more than 37 years, he retired in 1986 after 15 years as chief financial officer. He was on the first board of directors of Atmos after it became an independent company. Most recently active in the Senior Adult and Homebound ministries of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, he was for 40 years a member of Amarillo’s Trinity Baptist Church. There he met Bettye Jo Lynch. They were married September 16, 1956, in the Kellerville Baptist Church. Both Bettye and he were active at Trinity, where he was treasurer for more than 30 years, a deacon and church moderator for many years, and on countless committees. He also served on the Salvation Army’s Amarillo advisory board as finance chairman.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas (3933 Northwest Pkwy, 75225), with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the 50 Plus Ministry of Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Pkwy, Box 12068, Dallas, Texas 75225-0068, or to Trinity Baptist Church, 1608 Wolflin Avenue, Amarillo, Texas 79109, or to a favorite charity.
