Colleen Cleo (McJunkin) Hormann — wife, mother, grandmother and friend — fell asleep in the arms of her Lord on Monday, September 7, 2015. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family and pastor, at the home of her daughter in Murphy, TX. She resided in Salem, OR from 1957-2015 when she moved to Allen, Texas due to failing health. Colleen was 86 and had been stricken with interstitial lung disease. We rejoice with her, confident in the knowledge that she is at peace, happy and able to breathe free in the glory of Heaven.
Colleen was born in Miles City, MT on March 23, 1929, to Donovan and Grace (Hale) McJunkin who preceded her in death. She was the middle child in a family of eleven children, Audrey Sweeney, Park City, MT; Donna VanVeckhoven, Denham Springs, LA; Karen Fulford, The Woodlands, TX; Dennis McJunkin, Fallon NV and Arlyn McJunkin, Nada Watts, Neil McJunkin, Velda Brummitt, Kaye McJunkin, and Keith McJunkin who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Robert (Bob) Hormann, Allen, TX; son Kevin Hormann (Shauna), Madras OR; daughter Marla Johnson (Tim), Lucas, TX; and son Michael Hormann (Cindi), Sublimity, OR. Colleen found such joy in the presence of her seven grandchildren, Lisa Felthous, Kerry Hormann, Erin Johnson, Noah Hormann, Andrew Johnson, Kyle Hormann and Mykala Hormann. She was blessed in this life with five great-grandchildren, Reagan, Mackenna and Abigail Felthous and Soren and Jude Hormann.
Colleen graduated from Forsyth High School, Forsyth, MT in 1949 and married Bob two months later. They lived in Billings, MT until 1957 when Bob’s search for work brought them to Salem. She loved Oregon – the flowers, the fruit, the ocean and the weather.
Her full-time occupation and commitment was as wife and mother. She loved her family. Colleen’s love for her family was second only to her devotion to her Savior. She was a gentle spirit with a servant heart. Until the day she died, Colleen devoted hours making quilts for those in need through her church, St. John Lutheran, Salem, OR. She was a member of its Altar Guild and Women’s Guild and held various offices, through the years including President. She enjoyed making church banners for religious holidays and baptism’s. Colleen was a remarkable seamstress, a painter, a gardener and a golfer. Among family and friends she will be remembered fondly for the sumptuous pies she made – her specialty was marionberry pie.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 1350 Court St NE, Salem, OR 97301, Saturday, October 3rd, 2015, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
