In loving memory of David William Kane, who was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on January 9, 1932, and peacefully departed his earthly life February 1, 2026. David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by faith, service, and an authentic kindness that touched everyone he met. A man of quiet wisdom, David had a gentle, good-natured spirit; paired with a sharp wit and warm sense of humor, all of which made time spent with him both meaningful and joyful.
David’s love for NC State University and Wolfpack sports began early in his childhood and remained a constant source of pride (with occasional doses of anguish) throughout his life. His enthusiasm for the Wolfpack reflected his deep connection to his home state and his enduring loyalty to his alma mater.
Following his education, he served in the U.S. Army within the First Radiological Safety Support Unit and assisted the Atomic Energy Commission with Operation Redwing. This pioneering work led to his subsequent role as an instructor in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps School, where he taught chemistry and physics.
David enjoyed a distinguished career as a ceramic engineer, with a 32-year tenure at Texas Instruments where he applied his deep understanding of complex systems to the advancement of semiconductor technologies. David’s mathematical intellect, work ethic, and problem-solving skills left a lasting impression on colleagues and the field itself.
David’s Catholic faith was central to his life. He was an active and devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas and St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney, where he lived out his faith through compassion, humility, service, and prayer.
Beyond his professional and spiritual life, David found joy in friendships, family gatherings, and a well-played hand of bridge—at which he was an excellent partner and much-respected competitor. Whether at the bridge table or in conversation, his humor and thoughtful presence were always appreciated.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Peggy Wheeler Kane; his parents, John William and Mary Conlan Kane; his sister Gayle Grinstead; brothers John and Robert Kane; and granddaughter Anna Kane Asmus. He is survived by his children: Meg and her husband, Sanders Lee; David Kane; Paul and his wife, Patricia; Robert and his wife, Laurie; and Nancy and her husband, George Asmus. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he bestowed them with unwavering love, encouragement, and guidance.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Gregory Kelly for his years of friendship, guidance, and spiritual support; his presence has truly blessed the life of our family. They also wish to thank his friends and the staff at The Tradition Assisted Living and All Star Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness given to their father.
A Mass to celebrate David’s life will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas, on February 27, 2026 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Catholic Relief Services or Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House.
