Doris Faye Chester
The Life
Doris Faye Allen Chester, devoted Christian, loving mother, and Chester Family matriarch departed this life on Friday, February 26, 2021. She was born to the late Annie and Elisha Allen on December 27,1927 in Rusk, Texas.
Doris was a twin to Ray and the last surviving sibling of 15 children. Although her parents passed away when she was a young girl, she was raised by her oldest sister, Gracie whom she loved dearly.
Doris accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She passed on those same strong values of loving the Lord abundantly to her children and forthcoming generations.
In 1947, she entered matrimony to Leroy Chester and to that union, six children were born, five cherished sons and one beloved daughter. She enjoyed family travel throughout the world and often overseas to visit her military sons.
The Chester’s were one of the original families of the Hamilton Park neighborhood and considered pillars of the community. Additionally, they were a founding family of New Mount Zion Baptist Church where she obediently served many years as a Deaconess and a long-standing member of the Nurses Guild.
Doris was a natural caregiver, working several years at Presbyterian Hospital as a Nurse, and later as a Private Duty Nurse.
After retiring, she moved to Wills Point. They found a church home in Wesley Chapel Baptist Church, where she served alongside her husband. Doris was a devoted Elder and Deaconess in the church. She enjoyed planning the Annual Women’s Day and Breast Cancer Awareness events for the church in honor of her late sisters. She found it a great honor and privilege to represent her church in giving the “Welcome” speeches and extending the right hand of fellowship to visiting churches.
Her country home in Wills Point was a peaceful haven loved by many, and she shared it with all, especially her grandchildren. As a bright beacon to many, Doris opened her home often to annual family celebrations and gatherings. Her annual Thanksgiving dinner was a 30+ year tradition and the highlight of her year. She knew this event would bring together the Chester and Allen families which meant so much to her. She would always say, “No invitation is needed, you are always welcome.”
The Love
To her grandchildren, she was simply “Mimi,” a strong and loving grandmother. For some, she was more than a grandmother, she was a mother who opened her home and gave her love to them unconditionally. She shared her love of God with them and instilled a strong sense of order and pride in each of them, so selflessly.
Doris was affectionately known as, “Aunt Faye” to many as she was the last of her generation. She devoted her life to being there for her family and sharing the love they had for her sisters and brothers with their children. Her nieces and nephews adored her.
Doris was strong in her faith and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ above all. She would often go in her “prayer closet” to pray over her family members. She was the epitome of a Godly woman. Whether it was rendering a needed prayer, lending a listening ear, being a valued caregiver to her grandchildren or giving a simple hug. She opened her home and heart to everyone.
The Legacy
Doris was preceded in death by her 15 siblings, husband Leroy Chester (1997), sons; Alfred Chester Sr. (1991) and Robert Chester (2015), grandchildren; Larrisha Chester (2015), Demetria Chester (2017) and Felix Swarn (2019).
Those left to honor and cherish her legacy are her daughter, Alva Lois Morgan, sons; Larry Chester (Paula), Michael Chester (Joi) and Anthony Chester (Dremetris), along with 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 5 great, great grandchildren; special son, Curtis Brown and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In her final years, her family would like to thank Mr. Lonnie Dillard for the joy, love and happiness, he brought to her life.
