Homer Gerald Wallis was born in Richardson, Texas on November 4, 1933, to Homer W. and Geraldine Huffhines Wallis. He attended First Baptist Church Richardson, where he gave his heart to Jesus and dedicated his life to serving God.
Following his graduation from Richardson High School, Gerald attended North Texas State University but interrupted his studies to honorably serve in the U. S. Army. Upon discharge, Gerald returned to college completing a bachelor’s degree with high honors and subsequently earning his CPA accreditation.
While in college, he married fellow student Annelle Anderson of Garland Texas. They started a family, adding Jerilyn, Ken, and Becky. After Annelle’s sudden death, Gerald stepped into the challenging role of single parent of his three small children. He married Maxine Stavely in November 1965 gaining teen daughters Trish and Sue
His accounting career included serving as Controller for divisions of LTV in Michigan and Utah and several years as Controller at First Baptist Church Dallas. He and Maxine opened their private accounting practice in the mid-1980s and worked together until retirement.
More notably, Gerald spent a lifetime in service to His Lord and Savior acting as a Deacon for many years during his 40+ year membership at “First Dallas”, assisting in evangelism efforts, working on mission trips to build new churches, and providing all who met him with a true example of the character of Christ. His gentle spirit, generous and forgiving heart, and his sweet nature exemplified the commitment to “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” and to “love thy neighbor as thyself” (Matt. 22:37-39).
Gerald and wife, Maxine, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and to many foreign lands. They also truly loved spending time with family and traveled as far away as Nigeria and Ecuador to see their kids and grandkids. Their almost 60-year marriage also involved multiple moves to different states, and at each transition, they remained committed to sharing the Christian faith by starting and supporting local churches.
Dearly loved by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends and relatives, Gerald was always ready with a big smile and a hug. He will be missed…and yet we rejoice with him as he now stands in the presence of Jesus. We praise God for the promise that we will most assuredly meet him again in Heaven.
In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by brother George Wallis, sister Ruth Willis, first wife Annelle Anderson Wallis, son-in-law Patrick Winfield, and grandson Patrick Winfield Jr. Gerald is survived by his precious wife, Maxine, children Trish Davis (Larry), Sue Winfield, Jerilyn Wallis Smith (James), Ken Wallis (Holly), and Becky Wallis Smith (Tim); 13 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
