

JoAnne Black Houck, 81 years old, passed away on the evening of March 25, 2024 at Faith Presbyterian Hospice. She was born on June 12, 1942, in Dallas, TX. JoAnne was the eldest child to Joseph Ross Black and Mary Louise Holland Black.
She was a resident of Dallas her entire life and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School. JoAnne was a member of East Dallas Christian Church and was baptized along with her sister Linda and her cousin Glynda Harris on Easter Sunday April 18, 1954.
As a teen, JoAnne had several modeling jobs for a local department store. She later married Byron Morris Tolbert. JoAnne took her role as mother and homemaker as her primary focus until her children were grown.
She was married to David Arthur Houck on November 6, 1999. Later, she pursued several jobs outside the home, including a managerial position at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Corporation where the storefront located then at Valley View Mall. Here, she was admired and loved by employees for her keen eye for merchandising and her witty sense of humor.
Before this position, she was a secretary at Fox and Company Accountants. Later, JoAnne developed her skills in retail at the Sample House Gift Shop located on Preston Road. This experience was good retail training, as she later became a Cosmetic Sales Associate at North Park Neiman Marcus location. After this JoAnne worked in the administrative office of Amberton University.
She was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church and was a volunteer in the church kitchen for approximately four years.
JoAnne began playing the piano as a young child and was gifted her piano at age 13. In addition, she played the violin in the Hillcrest High School Orchestra. Later in life, she used her artistic talent in learning the art of Porcelain Painting. JoAnne also loved gardening, as spring was her favorite time of the year.
She is survived by her husband, David Houck; children, Lisa Anne Tolbert Lowe and Byron Philip Tolbert; grandchildren, Clayton Arthur Werner, Clinton Morris Tolbert, Mason Byron Tolbert and Charles William-Lowe; sister Linda Sue Black Schmitt and brother John Robert Black.
JoAnne will be greatly missed by those who love her.
