I met John and his wife several years ago on a recommendation from EK Sowell.  John was working on a couple of SCUBA regulators of mine, and during that particular time, he took me into the house and showed me the target shooting trophies and ribbons that he had won.  We talked loading, calibers, guns, etc.  Obviously, he was not a "one trick pony".  By the way, the regulators that he modded for me are still in use today and are the best ever!  He always wanted to read the "tea leaves" in the regs!!  A wonderful man, he was, and his expertise on many topics will be sorely missed.  God bless you, John, and family.

John taught me to dive well at Richland College in 1977, and every Dive I have made since then, I thank him for his instruction.  RIP John.

I learned to love diving as a result of John's class at Richland College.  I went on to become an instructor myself; however, never lost my memories of my first scuba instructor.  Rest in peace, John.

John was truly one of the best people I had the opportunity to know. I met and became friends with John after I enrolled in his SCUBA class at Richland College. My wife Jan soon got certified by John as well. We had a great dinner at John's house with his lovely wife. He will be truly missed by many many people. A better man never lived.

John was a great guy and super SCUBA MAN.  

I meet John more than three decades ago and we hit it off from get go.  We shared the same passion for the sport and for the pursuit of instructional excellence.   One thing that I admired about John is his ability to "tell it like it is" where so many in the Dive Industry will sit back and not "rock the boat", John would "speak his mind" and I will miss that.

I want to think he is on the big dive boat today giving the dive briefing for the new divers on board, I think I can hear him say " We are going to put you into special tanks today, they never go empty and you do not need your 
dive tables on this dive, you can go as deep as you want and stay as long as you want.... last one in get's the dinner tab."

I only knew John briefly. I worked for Winnie West at Aqua Sports on Harry Hines in 1980. Shortly after I started working there Meg, the manager at the time, told me that I had to go and pick John up because his car was getting repaired. She said that he was very upset (something to do with his car) and I was the lucky one that had to go pick him up. I did. John got in the car and didn't say anything. Along the way back he spoke up and said, “Physics, the more you know about physics, the more you'll understand how everything works.” That was all he said to me on the drive back. That was the first time I met him and I've never forgotten that. I got to know John a little more while I worked at the shop. He taught Dave Grace and me a lot about equipment repair. But in just a few moments, he made such an impression on me and his advice continues to serve me well to this day. I feel honored to have been lucky enough to cross paths with him.

John was an Amazing Man & helped me SO MUCH with my diving fears...He was more than a diving instructor, He was a Friend!

It was by accident that I ended up in one of John's classes but it was one that changed a lot of things for me. What a great teacher he was and like others, I shared some really good times and have funny stories to share. I only hope I can be half the person he was.

Although I only knew John briefly, he made a great impression on me.  It was wonderful to know a man who loved his wife dearly and showed such kindness to his sister Susan.  He is certainly going to be missed by all.  Willa Patterson

John was my instructor in 1970.  He would say that our group was the only class he had that were 1/2 fish.  We all made 100 on the exam.  My brother, Bobby and I went to Glovers Reef with John, Captain Blood and others.  After we left to go back to the US we stayed a day and went to the pyramids outside of Belize.  It had been raining.  I was right next to John when the most beautiful rainbow arched over the largest pyramid.  John got the picture.  I think it was in National Geographic.

Great memories of John.  God bless and keep an eye on Kay.

Thoughts and prayers to the family. Memories of John from high school time flow through my mind. All the great times our group shared. I'm sure John is diving or casting to his heart's content. God bless all of you.

John was not just a great diver and fine  photographer, but a great teacher who shared his love of the undewater world with so many,  Teaching them a skill that they could enjoy a lifetime.
His classes were entertaining as well as informative.  Working with him, I heard the same stories time and time again and still laughed at the jokes that never got stale.  
I have never hit the water without thinking of John and the lessons he taught and I know I never will.
John, I know you are diving someplace.  I'll keep an eye out for you.

Who will ever forget the "Green Machine" or "The Rat?" We raced each other endlessly.We would have done so on tricycles if that is all we had.
Keep your foot on the floor, John.

John lived the adage "Take only pictures and leave only bubbles!"  We will miss his unending tales of adventures and his inate ability to embellish them.

To the family, during this very sad time, please continue to lean on "The God of All of Comfort" 2nd Cor. 1:3-4.

John was my fishing buddy.  We shared many adventures together but today what John taught me I can teach to others.  I will miss him but when ever I pick up my fly rod he will be close by.
