Born in Cameron, Texas in 1920, Joyce Isabel Craven graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University, and she was a schoolteacher before joining American Airlines as a flight attendant. It was during a flight that she met her future husband, Jake, an American Airlines pilot, when she brought him coffee in the cockpit. Joyce and Jake spent many happy years traveling the world together.
Joyce was a longtime member of the Park Cities Baptist Church and an active member of The Kiwi Club, the organization of retired American Airlines flight attendants. She enjoyed attending Sunday school services, reading, and spending time with her friends, family, and dearly loved cat, Inky. In May, Joyce celebrated her 92nd birthday with her niece and several close friends.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, James "Jake" Huggins Sr., their sons, James "Jimmy" Huggins and Jon Huggins; her parents, Frank Craven, Sr. and Lennis Craven, her brother, Frank Craven, Jr., and her nephew, Frank "Corky" Craven. She is survived by her niece, Suzanne Craven Boyd of Tucson, AZ, her grandniece, Teresa Bandy of Elk Grove, CA, her brother-in-law, Frank Huggins of Ft. Smith, AK, and many dear friends in the Dallas area.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on July 17th at Ellis Chapel, Park Cities Baptist Church. Joyce will be laid to rest in Ft. Smith, AK, together again with her husband and sons. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The DFW Humane Society or The Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
