at the age of 62 after waging a year-and-a-half battle with cancer.
Katherine was born January 18, 1951 in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Richard and Pearl Swango. She received an M.A. in Theatre from Steven F. Austin State University in 1977. She married John Tregilgas on February 14, 1984 in Dallas, Texas, where the couple shared the next 29 years.
Katherine worked primarily as a teacher, though she held other interesting jobs over the years as well. She also volunteered for many worthy causes. She loved reading, games, and theater and instilled those loves in her children, to whom she was overwhelmingly devoted.
Katherine is survived by her husband John Tregilgas; her daughter, Kelsie Hyden; her son, Richard Tregilgas II; her grandson, Sterling Hyden; and her sisters, Curtis Graves and Stacy Swango.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson, Texas 75081.
