Linda Coke Newton

Linda Coke Newton passed away in Dallas, Texas on May 22, 2025, at age 86. Her parents were Rosser J. Coke, Jr. and Yvonne Laughlin Coke of Dallas, Texas.  She had three siblings:  Yvonne Coke Julian of Cohasset, MA; Mike Coke of Mallorca, Spain; and Gail Coke Bartlett of Johnson City, TX.  She is predeceased by her parents and her sister Yvonne.

Linda was an alumna of Highland Park High School, and attended Rollins College and The University of North Texas, where she earned certifications in computer coding in the 1980’s and horticulture subsequently. She was driven by a strong desire to learn and master whatever she set her mind to. Her talent for landscape design was both a creative outlet and a brief career, one where she applied her disciplined approach to transforming outdoor spaces with clarity and intention.

Linda passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

Linda was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She  is survived by her two children, Rosser Coke Newton, Sr. of Dallas, TX and Tracy Scarfi and her husband Joe Scarfi, of Wilton, CT , and her five grandchildren: Hattie, Rosser, Jr. and Laughlin Newton, and Joseph and Sophia Scarfi.

An intrepid traveler, Linda is remembered for her trips in the 1970’s with her children through rural Mexico in her station wagon. For most of the 1990’s, Linda lived in Ajijiic, Mexico with her sister, Yvonne.

A memorial service will be held on June 28th at Dallas Arboretum, where friends and loved ones are invited to gather in celebration of Linda’s extraordinary life.

In honor of Linda, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, an organization close to her heart.

Though she may be gone from our sight, Linda’s love and legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
