Lucille Griffin Newell, a woman of remarkable grace, intellect, and resilience, passed away in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 100. Born in Quintin, Mississippi, Lucille’s century of life was defined by a tireless work ethic and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Lucille was a trailblazer who wore many hats throughout her career. She began her professional journey as a school teacher and a bus driver before venturing into the world of real estate, where she served as a broker alongside her husband. Her career culminated in academia, where she served with distinction as a Dean at Cameron College in New Orleans.
Despite her professional achievements, Lucille was most cherished as a homemaker and grandmother. She possessed a quiet, steady love that she expressed best in the kitchen. Her family will forever hold dear the memories of standing by her side as she cooked and baked, teaching them that the finest ingredients were always patience and care. However, her gentleness had its limits—Lucille was a legendary "force to be reckoned with" at the card table, where her sharp mind and competitive spirit shone brightly until the very end.
Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde; her brothers, Marvin, Walter, and Proby; her parents, Jessie Belle and George; and her grandson, Ryan.
Her legacy of strength and kindness lives on through her daughters, Jan and Debbie; her five grandchildren; and her fourteen great-grandchildren, all of whom carry a piece of her spirit with them.
Funeral services will be held at All Saints Chapel at the Episcopal School of Dallas on Saturday, March 21st at noon.
