Richard was born in Uniontown, KY, and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Journalism. His journalistic career spanned over 60 years. He first entered the profession as a reporter in 1950 on the Maysville Daily Independent in Maysville, KY. At that time Maysville was the only city in Kentucky with two competing daily newspapers.
From Maysville he joined United Press (now International) in Louisville and worked there and in the Charleston, WV. and Pittsburgh UP bureaus before being transferred to the Washington Bureau where he spent seven years. From UPI he joined Fairchild Publications in Washington and was transferred to Dallas, as Bureau Chief, in 1971. After Capital Cities News, which owned Fairchild, bought by the Fort Worth Star Telegram he worked for the Telegram for three years until 1981.
From 1981 to 1990 Sizemore did freelance reporting for several publications. For the past few years he maintained a web site on which he wrote essays concerning current events, particularly story angles which he thought the mainstream press either ignored or reported from a biased or establishment viewpoint. He is also the author of “Jackals at Jekyll”.
Richard was a former member of the Dallas Press Club, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the Southwest. He served three years in the Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and was off Guam headed for Tokyo when the war ended with Japan ended.
