Tung Van Vu was born in Hung Yen, Vietnam. He has had a varied and illustrious professional career throughout his life. He began young and tried his hand at anything. He was a jack of all trades, and became quite well known as a competent and skilled auto mechanic. But that was not enough. With the love and support of his brother Dinh Vu, he set his sights on a career in the health professions. His dream became reality when he graduated with a pharmacy degree from Saigon University School of Pharmacy in 1965.

Over the decades and in three countries (Vietnam, Canada and the United States), he has been a politician, entrepreneur, business owner and philanthropist. He discovered over the years however that his true love and passion lay in writing. He saw himself as a writer first and foremost. He has written countless health articles, and published a number of books (non-fiction and fiction) over the years. Undoubtedly he was most proud of two accomplishments: He founded and published Y-Te Health Magazine in 1992 and was its chief-editor until 2013. And he served as President for Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre for two terms, 2011-2014 and 2015-2017.

In his spare time he enjoyed giving back to the community, working with charitable organizations throughout the year. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father, and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Tuyet Yen Vu, daughter Thi Vu-O’Leary, son Jonathan Vu and his wife Nadine Hua, son Trevence Vu, daughter Tatiana Vu-Molaschi and her husband Brian, son David Vu, grandchildren Christina Miller and her husband Michael, grandchildren Aaron Vu, Brandon Vu, Kasandra Vu, Andre Vu, Ava Vu, great grandchildren, Wyatt Miller and Alexander Miller. He is also survived by his brother Hoan Vu.
