India Brinkley Hood

India Brinkley Hood daughter of Dixon Bryan and Ruth Meares Brinkley Hood, was born May 7, 1924 in Varina, NC. She graduated from Richlands High School and Woman's College in Greensboro, NC. She taught chemistry at Richlands High School for about two years, then worked for Buckeye Chemical.

India later attended the University of Tennessee, School of Pharmacy at Memphis and graduated in three years. She worked as a Pharmacist at several locations in NC, including Hood's Drug Store in Richlands and the Hood Drug Stores in Kinston, NC, and Maple Hill Clinic Pharmacy. She was heavily involved with computers, and has set up computer systems in pharmacies to keep profiles on customers and aid in the filing of prescriptions and keeping of records. She worked full-time until she was 87.

India died April 19, 2012 at age 87. She is survived by her brother: Robert L. Hood of Richlands; sisters: Obeda H. Lavin of Endicott, NY, Ruth H. Hartline of Kernersville, NC; Six living nephews and one deceased and six living Nieces.

A Funeral Service will be Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Richlands United Methodist Church with Reverend Roger Cope officiating. Burial will follow at the Onslow Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 -9:00 pm on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home, Richlands.
