Mary Catherine McCaffrey

Mary Catherine (Moriarty) McCaffrey was born in San Francisco, CA in 1939 to Dan and Mary Moriarty of Counties Kerry and Limerick, Ireland. She was one of nine children, falling 7th in line. Known for her beaming smile, warm welcome, and all things Irish, Mary brought joy and laughter to every gathering.

As a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, teacher, and friendshe used her gifts of storytelling, art, music, and infectious laughter to make everyone feel welcome and included. She started her lifetime in education as a student at St. Cecilia’s School, went on Mercy High School and then Lone Mountain College. She continued her love of education as a teacher and principal in SFUSD and St. Isabella’s School.

She will be missed by many, especially her son John McCaffrey, daughter Katie Talbott, brothers, sisters-in-law, grandchildren John Patrick, Danny, Enrico, and Marquez, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is welcomed home by her loving husband, Jack McCaffrey.

There will be a Celebration of Life on May 15th at 11am at St. Isabella’s Church followed by a reception.
