Vallie Mearl Wilson came into this world on July 22,1939 to Jimmie Dee & Dosie Dee Daniels in Longview, Texas. The family relocated to Richmond, CA in 1944. Val was affectionately known as “Black Val”, given the name by her brother-in-law, John Dixon. Val was the eldest of three siblings. She attended public schools in the Richmond School District and graduated from Richmond High School.
Val gave birth to her first child, Sidney Stevens in 1965. She united in holy matrimony to Bobby Joe Wilson in 1970, and to this union was born her daughter, Robbie Wilson (Levels).
Val worked for the Richmond Unified School District for several years. She then started her medical career working at Ross General Hospital in Marin County. Val then worked at Marin General Hospital where she retired after working over 20 years in healthcare.
Val was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was baptized and a member at Davis Chapel CME Church in Richmond.
Val was a loving, funny, ambitious woman who was quick to tell you how she felt without biting her tongue for no one. She enjoyed cooking, laughing, riding motorcycles, and going fishing with friends; she would often host card parties at her house including dominoes, spades and bid whist. If socializing outside her home, you could probably catch her at Minnie Lou’s, Lil Rickey’s and The Pinto Room to name a few lounges. She enjoyed watching action and comedy movies, keeping up with the latest fashions, and
getting her hair done every Friday at Jazzy Jen’s. She had a great love for her grandchildren and poured into them every chance she got.
Val passed away peacefully at NorthBay Hospital in Fairfield surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy battle with Dialysis/Lung Cancer, on December 25, 2023.
Val was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Wilson; father, Dosie Daniels; mother, Jimmie Daniels; brother, James “Bud” Daniels; sister, Nadine “Cheetah” King; her sistahs, Cheryl Taylor and Lela Madison; and “Cousin” Marilyn Washington.
